Ezyliner FR Fire Retardant Polypropylene Liner case study

Faced with ever increasing fire compliance requirements for lining their finished product, our client needed a material that had been thoroughly tested against standards that were relevant to the markets they sold into.

Our client exports products to a number of overseas countries and being able to market the product as being fire retardant and have this backed up with recognised certification, was of significant benefit to them. IPS became involved after our client had exhausted the search for such a material with their existing supplier.

Following on from our initial client meetings, we began the search using existing contacts throughout Europe and Asia. Once selected, the trial material was ordered from the manufacturer. Although our supplier could supply all the international testing certification, we felt it beneficial to have the material tested locally as well. Using BRANZ, Fire Rated testing began in accordance with ISO5660 and AS5637.1, the Standards relating to suitable materials used on wall or ceiling liners. At the same time we trialled the material for flatness, weldability and colour consistency.

It was decided to carry out a comparative test using our material and a competitors fire rated Polypropylene. The testing involved setting fire to the samples and mapping key indicators in the BRANZ Laboratory:

  • Time to sustained flaming
  • Average heat of combustion
  • Total heat release
  • Peak heat release.

Testing took place over several hours and in all categories, Ezyliner FR outperformed our competitors Polypropylene FR sheet. In the key area of peak heat release, Ezyliner FR produced 75% less heat of the competitors material. This is a particularly significant in terms of slowing down potential flame spread. From the results achieved, Ezyliner FR achieved a Category 3 rating confirming its suitability for the lining of walls and ceilings in an Industrial environment.
